Local Attractions

You will find several family attractions within easy reach.

Lakeside Pier

A 3 minute drive will bring you to Lakeside Pier, where the famous Lake Windermere Steamers depart regularly to Bowness and Ambleside – a wonderful way to explore without driving.  Or take the Steam Train from here to Haverthwaite.

Lakeside Aquarium

The lakeside Freshwater Aquarium is also just 3 minutes drive away at Lakeside Pier.

Fell Foot Park

A National Trust Park just around the corner where you can hire rowing boats, kayaks or paddleboards. They have fantastic new changing facilities with underfloor heating for when you are cold & wet.

Grizedale Forrest.  

A 30 minute drive will take you to Grizedale Forrest where you can challenge yourself at

 Go Ape or the Mountain Bike Trial. There are also lots of walking trails , Pony Fell Adventure, Horse Riding, Zip Trekking and a great children’s play area. Some activities need pre booking.

Walks

There are some lovely walks in the area, such as Wainwright’s Finsthwaite Heights route from Newby Bridge. The route approaches High Dam, a picturesque Tarn that you might just have to yourself on quieter days.

Historic Sites

There are plenty of historic sites to visit such as

Holker Hall & Gardens,  Cartmel Priory,  Stott Park Bobbin Mill, Sizergh Castle & Levens Hall.

They are all in easy reach by car.

Or just sit in the garden and take in the fresh air, amazing view & listen to the gentle flow of the river and the occasional hoot hoot of the steam train across the riverbank.

An independent and family run farm shop is 20 mins drive, just off the A591.

Well worth a visit with its traditional butchery counter showcasing locally sourced produce. Plus shelves brimming with the best foods & drinks from local & specialist suppliers.

Ulverston Town

 A 10 minute drive where you will find Booths supermarket and a wealth of individual shops. Not to mention lots places to eat & drink. A firm favourite is Bici Café, www.bici-cafe.co.uk/the-cafe/  Italian Café & Kitchen open for breakfast until late in the evening. A converted Bike Shop, with amazing artwork on loan.  Offering Cycle routes, cycle park, & tool station ( still intact from its bike shop days)

Newby Bridge Petrol Station & Shop

This is just 2 minutes drive away. Pick up a wide selection of groceries including wine & beer for a relaxing evening in.

Greenodd Village

If you fancy Fish & Chips, Crakside Fish & Chip Shop is just a 7 minute drive away in Greenodd Village. Here you will also find Bakers Born & Bread, for delicious daily bakes.
